The NetQoS Advantage for Service Providers and Systems Integrators

Expand Your Portfolio with New, Differentiated IT Services

Create new products and service offerings based on industry-leading network performance management technology, roll out all products and service offerings more rapidly, and build customer confidence.

Service providers and systems integrators are facing several challenges in expanding their businesses and remaining competitive. Managed network services have been commoditized, squeezing margins. Low barriers to entry are making it easy for low-cost entrants to the market. Customers are more demanding and their switching costs are low.

To remain competitive, service providers and systems integrators need to increase the breadth of their portfolios of service offerings.  NetQoS can help you develop, deploy, and cost-effectively support new, differentiated IT services based on our acclaimed network performance management technology.

NetQoS products and services are used by hundreds of large enterprises, service providers, and government organizations to manage and improve application delivery across the world’s largest networks. Our technology maximizes the value of  Cisco investments and works in concert with other leading tools such as Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager, IBM Tivoli Netcool, EMC Smarts and HP OpenView.

How NetQoS Can Help

Our suite of products, called the NetQoS Performance Center, uniquely requires no probes or agents to be installed at customers’ sites; you can use their existing network infrastructures for data collection.  You can meet customers’ demands for granular and meaningful measurements with an efficient, non-invasive solution.  You can deploy services quicker and start benefitting customers sooner.

NetQoS can help you deliver next-generation services and insight to your customers that build on your specialized expertise and augment your brand. NetQoS technology blends elegantly into any application delivery and network performance service that you build, while helping you deploy services quickly and support them more easily.

With NetQoS products, service providers and systems integrators can:

  • Expedite the delivery of applications and simplify their monitoring across global networks.
  • Improve end-user productivity and the end-user experience.
  • Meet Business Service Management (BSM) goals, by measuring the things that truly matter to customers: end-to-end application performance and the end-user experience.
  • Troubleshoot problems faster and avoid penalties associated with SLA violations.
  • Establish a common language and significantly improve collaboration across IT groups that can eliminate the “blame game” when problems arise. Our passive/non-invasive deployment shows exactly where the problem is so that you can focus on restoring service levels to the customer instead of wasting time looking for the source of the problem in the wrong area.
  • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery by using a single, intelligent platform for performance monitoring at your site and your customers’ sites.  Access data and metrics via a single Web-based portal for performance data that integrates easily with your corporate portal.

As your infrastructure and your business evolve, our passive data collection architecture and alliances with major vendors ensure that you will never have to do a wholesale replacement of probes to keep pace with changing infrastructure.

We can help you deliver new services to set your company apart from the competition, minimize your costs, and maximize your capital investment returns.

Here are three scenarios describing the successful use of NetQoS products to create and deliver new services.

Winning Customers with End-to-End Application Performance Monitoring

A European application service provider wanted to introduce a unique service offering: 100-percent visibility into application performance, with custom reports in real time, including multi-tier server reports. To create the new service offering, the provider used NetQoS SuperAgent, the end-to-end performance monitoring module of the NetQoS Performance Center. NetQoS SuperAgent analyzes end-to-end application response time without endpoint agents, to give customers visibility into how well the network and server infrastructure is delivering applications to end users across an organization.

NetQoS Super Agent has helped the application service provider create a
service with the following distinctive capabilities:

  • Rapid troubleshooting: Pinpoints causes to the network, server, or application and launches automatic investigations.
  • Baselining: Measures deviation from the parameters of normal application performance, taking into account the differences in performance for time of day, day of week, and day of month.
  • Response time analysis between tiers of multi-tier applications: SuperAgent measures response times for server-to-server communications.
  • Robust reporting: Organizes data by network, by application, and by server – and displays it in any way the customer chooses. For example, a customer can measure how various subnets deliver performance to a chosen application or set of applications.

With NetQoS SuperAgent, the provider is now able to prove the performance of the services it delivers to customers. The provider now plans to offer NetQoS SuperAgent as a value-added service to all of its customers, in “Bronze,” “Silver” and “Gold” packages, with varying levels of drill-down.

Deploying a Managed WAN Optimization Service for a Large Customer

For a Fortune 500 enterprise customer, an outsourcer used NetQoS SuperAgent and NetQoS Reporter Analyzer, the network traffic analysis module of NetQoS Performance Center, to streamline the process of deploying a new managed WAN optimization service based on Cisco WAAS.

The NetQoS solution first helped the outsourcer demonstrate their expertise to the client by showing them the highest impact branch sites for WAN optimization and quantify the actual improvements in application performance from deploying the service. Post-deployment, the NetQoS solution is helping manage application performance in the new optimized environment.

NetQoS helped the outsourcer:

  • Identify candidate sites for WAN optimization – convincing the customer of the value of buying the service
  • Provide before/after measurements for WAN optimization – quantifying the impact of WAN optimization on the performance of key applications
  • Manage performance in an optimized environment – by quickly understanding the impact of changes on transaction times, WAN utilization or traffic volumes
  • Troubleshoot faster and pinpoint problem root cause by having complete visibility of end-to-end performance throughout the customer’s enterprise.

Offering Traffic Visibility Services with NetQoS

A leading service provider has leveraged the capabilities of NetQoS ReporterAnalyzer to reduce the cost and complexity of delivering bandwidth utilization and traffic visibility services for its customers.  These services answer critical questions for their customers such as:  How much bandwidth are they using for mission critical versus non-essential applications?  What are the applications that are flowing over the WAN?  Are QoS policies having the intended effect?  How much data is used by each application?  Who are the top users of bandwidth?  What will happen to this link if we make an application or infrastructure change?

In the past, deploying a service such as this would require probes to be located at each branch site throughout the customer’s infrastructure.  By leveraging Cisco IOS® NetFlow and IP Flow Information Export (IPFIX), the service could be offered to the provider’s largest customers, without requiring the deployment of any remote hardware or instrumentation.

By using ReporterAnalyzer, the service provider was able to:

  • Deploy the services quickly – because the services use their existing router infrastructure and NetFlow for data collection instead of probes
  • Provide detailed information about who is using bandwidth and what applications they are running – creating a billable service in which customers find value
  • Deliver competitively priced services and reduce overhead – because there is no need to install and maintain probes at each customer site

ReporterAnalyzer was the first product able to harvest a rich set of traffic statistics from NetFlow and IPFIX enabled routers and switches and scale to large, distributed enterprise networks . ReporterAnalyzer continues to be recognized as the industry standard for flow-based monitoring and traffic analysis in Global 4000 enterprises.
