Network Traffic Analysis

Analyzing network traffic to determine which applications, servers, and clients are consuming network resources is a best-practice method for understanding root causes of application delivery issues.  Traditional methods of analyzing network consumption, such as link or device utilization, don’t provide IT staff with adequate insight into why network resources are being consumed.  The NetQoS Performance Center collects, analyzes, and reports traffic detail from the existing infrastructure without the need to deploy probes or software agents.

The NetQoS Performance Center collects flow export detail from existing routers and switches, leveraging device infrastructure for flow-based metrics. Cisco IOS NetFlow, IPFIX, sFlow, and J-Flow technologies are all supported to obtain visibility into what and who is consuming network resources.  When deviations in network traffic occur, the NetQoS Performance Center baseline and anomaly detection algorithms immediately notify IT staff through a variety of alerts and operations console integration.

In addition to flow export detail, the NetQoS Performance Center can leverage existing Cisco routers and switches for detailed application analysis with Cisco IOS Network Based Application Recognition (NBAR) technology.  Cisco NBAR allows IT staff to track specific application components such as individual URLs or database queries.  By taking advantage of Cisco NBAR and the resulting NetQoS Performance Center reports, IT staff can achieve the highest level of traffic visibility on the network without deploying a single network probe.

The combination of complementary data sources allows IT staff to solve problems faster, in response to alerts based on network traffic, and avoid unnecessary network costs by capacity planning at the application layer. With flow export and NBAR detail combined into a single reporting interface, the NetQoS Performance Center is the industry’s most comprehensive network traffic analysis solution for managing the world’s largest networks.
