WAN optimization technology accelerates the delivery of applications over the WAN. By design, WAN optimization technologies segment the standard client-server communication model into three components--client to WAN, WAN, and WAN to server--allowing the technology to optimize transaction flow in each segment. This change in transaction flow makes it imperative to visualize the impact WAN optimization will have on application delivery prior to deployment.
NetQoS interoperates with multiple WAN optimization vendors to ensure IT staff retain visibility into application delivery before and after WAN optimization is deployed. NetQoS and Cisco have partnered to provide exclusive data collection and reporting integration between Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) and the NetQoS Performance Center. The software on each WAAS appliance is compiled with proprietary NetQoS software designed to feed optimized transaction flow detail to the NetQoS Performance Center. This allows IT staff to report accurate end-to-end application response time metrics from the NetQoS Performance Center without deploying a monitoring probe at each client site instrumented with WAAS. In addition, the NetQoS Performance Center supports NetFlow export and access to the open WAAS API for visualizing before and after impact to per-application traffic flow and overall utilization.

WAN optimization devices are deployed at the edge, segmenting the transaction flow into three parts:
client, WAN, and server.
In non-Cisco WAN optimization environments, NetQoS continues to support flow or IPFIX export from WAN optimization appliances. This allows IT staff to retain visibility into how applications and users consume network resources and visualize the before and after impact of optimizing specific applications.
The NetQoS Performance Center collects flow export detail from any WAN optimization vendor, providing before/after impact analysis of optimizing specific applications
