AUSTIN, Texas – August 8, 2005 – NetQoS® Inc. announced that Sutter Health (Sutter) has deployed ReporterAnalyzerT to ensure smooth delivery of its applications - including some of its most critical patient safety initiatives - over its wide area network (WAN) for more than 30,000 workstations in 180 sites, including 28 hospitals. Sutter is a Sacramento, Calif.-based family of hospitals and physician organizations serving more than 100 Northern California communities.
"Not only are we using ReporterAnalyzer for troubleshooting our critical WAN applications, but also for capacity planning as we migrate to an MPLS environment and implement electronic medical records," said Sam Warnke, senior network engineer for Sutter Health. "Network issues that used to take Sutter days to analyze and resolve now take minutes with ReporterAnalyzer."
Sutter selected NetQoS ReporterAnalyzer to gain visibility into its WAN traffic, revealing which applications and users consume bandwidth. ReporterAnalyzer works by capturing a rich set of traffic statistics exported by Cisco IOS® NetFlow on routers and switches. ReporterAnalyzer provides visibility into all IP traffic at 15-minute granularity with real-time reports at one-minute granularity. This data enables Sutter to make timely and cost-effective decisions regarding network troubleshooting and capacity planning.
Sutter uses ReporterAnalyzer to monitor Internet, financial, pharmacy, radiology and lab applications that are hosted out of its corporate data center. Two critical patient safety technologies that rely on the WAN for smooth and timely delivery include Sutter's eMap bar coding system to help ensure the safe administration of medications, and its eICU® patient-safety system, which uses early warning software and video for remote, real-time monitoring of critical-care patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"Sutter is at the forefront of the healthcare industry with its IT initiatives, and ReporterAnalyzer now provides the visibility Sutter needs to monitor its key WAN-based applications and prepare for the deployment of future technologies," said Joel Trammell, NetQoS CEO.
ReporterAnalyzer's capacity planning capabilities are enabling Sutter to proactively manage the network. For instance, Sutter is moving to multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) as its WAN technology and is using ReporterAnalyzer to determine exactly how much bandwidth is needed on the MPLS interfaces it is purchasing. Sutter has already converted approximately 60 sites to MPLS and is also using ReporterAnalyzer to measure performance across the MPLS network.
ReporterAnalyzer is also helping Sutter prepare for the introduction of new healthcare technologies. For example, Sutter is working to deploy an electronic health record system networkwide. Using ReporterAnalyzer, Sutter is determining how this bandwidth-intensive application will impact network performance and preparing to size its interfaces accordingly.
NetQoS recently announced the availability of the NetQoS Performance Center, a no-charge management portal that integrates data from NetQoS products to offer network engineers, operations staff, IT managers and executives a faster way to diagnose performance problems, monitor SLA compliance, and plan capacity growth with Web-based views customized to their needs. In addition to ReporterAnalyzer, the NetQoS product portfolio includes SuperAgent® for end-to-end performance monitoring, AllocateT for IT cost accounting, and NetVoyant® for device and infrastructure performance management.
